MD’s Comment – 2011 In Review


Over the past four years and particularly during 2011, for a variety of reasons, the South African retail trading environment, in general, has been depressed.  This had a knock-on effect on businesses within the Sales and Merchandising sector.  SRS did not escape the ramifications of this situation.  The first six months of the 2011 financial year were the most difficult period financially that SRS had ever experienced.  However, our belief and practical support of our motto “Added Value…Everyone, Everyday!” contributed greatly to a complete turnaround from September to December 2011.  This, in comparison with our direct competitors, was a major achievement.

Our 2010/11 strategy to invest in people has guaranteed high service levels around the country.  Also, our growth focus culminated in securing the Silveray Stationery  account, which strategically was one of our most important achievements.  In addition we were able to conclude mutually lucrative arrangements with SpectraSpray, Major Tech, Buffalo Executape, Motoquip and National Stationery.  We have considerably strengthened our relationships with companies such as Berry Hill, Lasher, Seagull, Melbro and Zodiac, and continue to enjoy good business with the balance of our clients.  In order to maintain service excellence, SRS shed a number of non-cost effective accounts.

 There are excellent prospects in 2012.  These include agreements concluded with Fountain Medical and two other major market leading accounts.  In addition, in mid 2012, we intend to unveil an industry changing service which will further enhance our relationships with our clients and open new doors.

 Our continued focus on setting, monitoring and achieving goals in all areas of our business has contributed to entrenching our position as the country’s leading Non Food Sales and Merchandising service provider.  Combined with the commitment of our people and the support of our clients, SRS looks forward to an exciting and profitable 2012.
